J. Kevin Aguilar

Although not technically trained, J.Kevin has been performing Hip-Hop/Street dancing since 1989. On a whim, he carried out an idea of his to have himself and his close friends perform what is known as video choreography. This idea of performing was thought up to be the outlet of the shy and quiet side of his personality.

Sticking with dancing for the past 17 years, J.Kevin created a string of dance crews, all of which consisted of close friends. Halfway through, he had co-founded what seemed to be the perfect fit of a dance crew for himself, Dawn of a New Age [DNA]. DNA’s energy, creative choreography, humor and love for performing got them big performances, which led to notoriety, respect, admiration, and success as a hip-hop dance crew. Traveling as far as Chicago, some of their venues include Lollapolasia 3 [House of Blues in Chicago] with Filipino Pop/R&B group Kai, East Coast Dance Crew Competition [Downtime in NYC], Import Showoff [Navy Pier in Chicago], One Voice Jam [Golden Dragon in Maryland] with Filipino Pop/R&B group One Voice, and several Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue conferences [F.I.N.D] along the East Coast with California’s own dance crew, Chain Reaction.

As an individual, J.Kevin has helped choreograph and organize programs for local universities. He has also performed with and choreographed for the Washington Wizards Dance Team and was Assistant Director for the Washington Mystics Mayhem Dance Team. In 2002, he and members of DNA executed what seemed to be a 2-year-planning processed goal, establishing Washington D.C.’s chapter of the internationally known hip-hop dance troupe, Culture Shock. And within the prior 2 years, he created and directed yet another 2 award-winning dance crews, Project X and DNA: Performance Team.

In his most recent years of dancing, he became a member of dance company Urban Moves Entertainment. Contributing choreography to the company, Urban Moves won #1 honors at the 2003 World Hip-Hop Championships, 2nd to Canada. Shortly after, he continued choreographing for and dancing with the directors of Urban Moves under the Nu Vision Entertainment dance team, X Faction, which he was Team Captain. In those combined 3 years, a few of his accomplishments list as dancing on stage a few times with Grammy Artist Monica, traveled the world and performed in 2 international tours for AFE and JoJo Entertainment and appeared in R&B artist Lil’ Mo’s video “Dem Boyz”.
