CMI Pre-Professional Program

Capitol Movement, Inc. trains young dancers to maximize their performance potential. Aspiring young professionals, between the ages of 9 and 17, audition to work with local and national choreographers in preparation for a Pre-Professional Company dance performance as well as other area events.

Once dancers are in the cast, they train at the Capitol Movement Studio and are engaged at the professional level.

Movement of the People Dance Concert – Was held November 12, 2011

So much more than a recital, and definitely not your average kids show, the CMI Pre-Professional Company dazzled with their remarkable power and precision. In a demonstration of astounding versatility, Company dancers packed the evening with hip hop, contemporary, modern, jazz, partnering, and tap, premiering new works by Derrick Butler, Nicole Klett, Samantha Figgins, Shontal Snider, Stephanie Jojokian, and Viktor Wallace. A special treat included choreography by LA’s Adam Parson, whose work on Australia’s So You Think You Can Dance has been seen by millions. Bring the movement to your home – purchase a DVD – and mark your calendar for their next performance, March 3 and 4 at the Annual Jazz and Tap Festival!

Why CMI?
We recently asked some of our up-and-coming young dancers why they enjoy CMI. Here are a few reasons why:

  • “I have been a member of Capitol Movement since the beginning and not only have I grown as a dancer, but as a person. I love CMI, it’s a part of my life”
  • “Capitol Movement is where my heart is, this company is part of the reason I am who I am today.”
  • “I love CMI! It provides me with opportunities to further my dance experience and improve my skills as a dancer.”
  • “[I dance with CMI] to maintain the styles of dance that I know, with instruction from great teachers, and to become more of a well rounded dancer.”
  • “I am interested in pursuing dance as a career, I have seen Capitol Movement perform, and it inspired me to be a part of the company.”
  • “This company has given me lots of opportunities and chances to dance with some of the best in the DC area.”
  • “My dream is to attend Julliard and just dancing as a competition style dancer doesn’t allow me to be as versatile as I should be as a dancer.”
  • “CMI made it evident that they truly are a beneficial dance institution because I felt as if my technique grew tremendously just over the year I have been in the Pre-Professional Company.”
  • “It is a very nice movement and I think people need to see the talent DC has to offer.”
  • “Capitol Movement is where my heart is, this company is part of the reason I am who I am today.”
  • “Love the program.”
  • “This company has given me lots of opportunities and chances to dance with some of the best in the DC area.”
  • “[This] company will help me improve as a dancer and a person.”
  • “I really like taking classes with CMI and exploring new styles of dance.”
  • “I am interested in dancing professionally in the future and I believe this will be a stepping stone into doing so.”
  • “From the videos I have seen You Tube of Capitol Movement, I believe that this company will supply me with the dance education that I deeply desire.”
